Coach Wheatley

Brian Wheatley, a California native, has helped the Bradenton, Sarasota, Venice, and Charlotte County areas become a major volleyball force in the State of Florida over the course of the last 15 years. After playing volleyball at San Jose State University and coaching as an Assistant at Auburn University, he brought his west coast volleyball mentality to Southwest Florida.


Coach WheatleyBrian is the founding director of Venetian Bay (1998) where he has helped over a hundred of girls develop into All State players and even reached high school All American status. He has also been very involved in the Florida High School Region including serving as a member of the Volleyball Advisory Committee for the FHSAA.

He has been the Varsity Coach at Venice High School for the last 15 years where he has won 13 District Championships, 5 Regional crowns, 2 state Runner up finishes and 2 State Championship Titles. He has an overall current record of 381 wins and 85 losses at Venice High and has coached 27 athletes on to play college volleyball. The Venice High Team has been ranked in the top 10 of the state in all of his 14 years as coach and finished in the National rankings three times. His coaching accolades include: 1998 and 2005 Florida Coach of the Year Runner-up, 10 time FACA District Coach of the Year, and 7 time Coach of the Year by the Sarasota Herald Tribune. Brian has a BS in Physical Education from Auburn University and a Master's Degree from National Louis University. He teaches PE at Venice H.S. Brian's wife is an elementary school teacher. They have 2 children, 7 year old Brooke and 5 year old Luke.
